Hello. This is

David at Bennettsweb

I'm David Bennett. You may have guessed that. This is my blog.

I'm one half of Glasgow-based web design company fuzzylime and sometimes write online news for STV. More about me …

If you're so inclined, you can find me on Facebook or
follow me on Twitter.
You can also e-mail me direct.

The story so far – the geekery side of things

I spent quite a long time torn between doing journalism and doing geekery.

Without wanting to blow my own trumpet, I like to think I'm quite good at both. Being a reporter was the first job I ever thought of doing (after the traditional pursuits of a five-year-old: astronaut, fireman, civil engineer, that sort of thing) and I wouldn't change my full-time time as one for anything – it was, advertising features aside, fantastic. But all the time, I kept wondering whether computers – and, more specifically, this clever new internet thing – was the way to go.

Enough of the online anonymity

I used to blog, a while back.

I mean, in internet terms, it was positively prehistoric times. The first entry on my previous site (and yes, I have just checked this) was posted in 2002. I managed to stick with it reasonably regularly, apparently, until late 2007.

Bad emo poetry on livejournalThen something went wrong. I think that, by that point, I was spending considerably more time at my previous employers – The Herald – and, frankly, I had lost interest in spending my free time writing when I was spending all day dealing with words already. But anyway, three entries in two-and-a-half years does not a blog make. It doesn't even make a LiveJournal, for goodness' sake, and they're mainly just bad emo poetry.
